  1. Eric is right, he’s honoring Chuck by just being himself. It’s twisted, because as I said before I think Chuck was lying when he severed his bond with Jimmy, which made him relapse hard. It’s unfortunate that Chuck was mentally ill, because both Chuck an Jimmy’s relationship proceeded as if he wasn’t. Even if Jimmy did use it against him in court. Because now Chuck is gone an Jimmy is taking his last words to heart: “I have no question that your feelings are genuine. You have remorse. But my question is, why bother? Why go through the rigmarole? You hurt people Jimmy. It’s what you do. If you’re not gonna change your behavior, why go through the whole process? Frankly, I’d respect you more for it.” (it’s not word for word, but pretty close)

Jimmy is skipping the guilt phase now. It’s not his thing anymore. He’s not gonna change his behavior, so why bother? What’s so twisted is that I think Jimmy could’ve possibly changed, but since Chuck didn’t believe it, it created an even bigger monster than he thought possible. Chimp with a machine gun, huh? I argue that Chuck himself pushes Jimmy to become Saul. Chuck was right, but only because he made it so. At least, that’s my opinion.

    1. I never bought into the idea that Chuck made Jimmy who he is. He was a con artist and cutting corners long before he reunited with Chuck. And when he thought his shenanigans made Chuck worse his solution wasnt to stop doing them. His solution was to hide them so he couldnt find him while he still doing old people and billboard scams. Its easy to say if that one person gave him an opportunity that would have changed everything but the wasted every opportunity given by the people that did believe in him. Jimmy was always the guy that always prfioritize getting to his goals over doing things the right way even if he feels bad about it afterwards. Chuck did not create that person. At best he convinced Jimmy to stop making a show of his remorse everytime. But sing and dance and scam and cheat? That was always him.

      1. I don’t disagree with you that Chuck didn’t make Jimmy who he is. However, I do believe there was a part of Jimmy that wanted to be more like Chuck and wanted to make him proud by being a good lawyer but from the moment he got his law degree, Chuck was trying to keep him down. How different do you think it would have turned out if Chuck hired Jimmy at HHM and mentored him and taught him how to be a good lawyer? I think there was a part of Jimmy that wanted that and had his brother reciprocated those feelings I believe Jimmy could have changed and actually been someone Chuck could be proud of. Sadly that part of Jimmy died with Chuck and the only things rattling around in his head are, “I’ve never really cared all that much for you” and “Frankly, I’d have more respect for you if you did” (embrace his Slippin’ Jimmy side). It’s really no wonder he went down the path he did.

        1. Jimmy didnt screw Chuck over in Mesa Verde just for fun. He did because Kim is someone important to him and she deserved for all the efforts she put into getting Mesa Verde. It was gratitude and caring that made Jimmy steal a client from Jimmy.

What would have happened if he worked with Chuck at HHM? Most likely he would have tried to help Chuck get the wins he deserved using underhanded/creative tactics for his brother that loves the law and is dedicated to it, maybe he would even do it for the benefit of his clients because they deserve compensation against a dumb system. Yes, It might have been possible to rehabilate him but it would have had to involve letting go of a lot of his slip ups and schemes in the first couple months/years and letting him be a shady lawyers for a bit.

And while letting go of those slip ups might have helped to set him on the right path by slowly making him better. There’s also a chance that it would have convince Jimmy to find more creative ways to hide his ways to not disappoint his brother or convince him the end result (people they helped, his brother he helped get what he deserved) justifed the means , he might convince his brother the law is much too unfair and sometimes rules need bending.

People often go “he could have just help” but it would effectively mean Chuck would have to accept to let Jimmy be a shady lawyer for a bit and gamble he would be the influence on his brother rather than him using his usual patterns for the great charm and big heart that fuels Jimmy’s cons.

  2. If you’re interested, there are some bonus features for season 4 called “Madrigal Electromotive Security Training” in which Mike hosts training videos for employees and I highly recommend them. You can find them on AMC’s website.
