This is the same Archer as UBW with the same goals. Archer wants to kill the Shirou Emiya that would become him to try and cause a paradox powerful enough to wipe himself from existence.
When he sees that this Shirou is forsaking his ideals (Hero of Justice for ALL) to focus on saving ONLY Sakura above everyone else, he realizes that THIS Shirou won’t become HIM. He’ll never accept the contract to become a Counter Guardian, so he has no reason to kill Shirou.
He’s warning Shirou that if he stays on this path he has a chance, but if he falters and goes back to his be a hero to all mentality then he has no future, meaning he’ll be doomed to become Archer and Archer will try and kill him if that becomes the case.

Shirou having to kill Sakura seems to be a common theme in other iterations so I’m led to believe that the grail fragments from the 4th Grail war always activated in some form sometime after the 5th war, ultimately leading to Shirou killing Sakura or being unable to save her.
This could be one of the big regrets of Archer Shirou. Notice how quickly Archer let go of his personal vendetta when Shirou chose Sakura in the first movie. I would like to think that with the help of Rin in UBW, Shirou were able to find a better resolution for Sakura down the road.
I’m a bit surprised that Shinji gets as much hate as he does and Sakura gets a pass. I’m especially shocked because Blindwave did not put any thought behind Shinji at all… they just looked at the superficial side of it, which imo completely misses the point of his character. Both went through some brutal stuff with Z. Matou, as well as other members of the family, but Sakura gets the pass. Why is this? She’s objectively done worse things. You may argue that some of that is against her control. Fine… but you should have the same viewpoint for Shinji as well. How much of what he’s doing is actually Shinji? I’m not saying that what he’s doing is right by any means. But all of this hatred is misplaced. It should be Z. Matou that gets the hate, not Shinji. He is simply a product of Z. Matou’s machinations and brutality. I think he’s faultless in this also. I think out of everyone, only Aaron really understood this. It’s a tragedy, really.
it’s the framing of it that makes sakura a lot more sympathetic cause we see all the things she goes through and she is close to the protagonist that we are viewing the story through. with shiji all we see are his worse traits and that is why it is so easy for everyone to hate on him.
Its the way the story is written from the shirou/sakura persective, she is framed as the victim and he her abuser. Its also just easier to root for someone we spent most of out time with as shy girl in love that tries to overcome the tragedy that is her fate then it is to root for this pathetic cocky asshole rapist
Also regardless of whether he’s truly responsible or not, Shinji makes absolutely no effort to be anything more than completely reprehensible. He has literally no good points. Whereas for all of the horror other characters may inflict, most if not all are either trying to be good and failing or are at least in service to some “higher” purpose. Shinji is just a loser. He’s a tragic character on technicality. Kirei in his sadism, hell even the serial killer of zero were more respectable because they had core malfunctions and did the best they could with their societal handicaps. Sakura suffered far more than Shinji ever did and still wished to be a decent person. No perspective change would alter this, it would only make it easier for some to see that Shinji had reason to be unhappy too.
I can’t completely blame Shinji for all the shit he has done. After all, as it often happpens in real life, victims of abuse can become abusers later on. And in THAT family it is impossible to be normal person without any problems. F*ck Zouken.
Sakura has dual Dissociative Identity Disorder brought on by her trauma and fears . The shadow is the physical manifestation of that alternate personality created by the overflowing power of the Gate. In other words she has multiple personality disorder and has for a long time but the gate awakening is causing it to spiral out of control. (ive seen the effects of Multiple personalty dissorder….and its not a good experience this movie triggered a little ptsd for me because ive known someone going through what Sakura is going through ..)
She doesn’t have did, that’s just a coping mechanism she has developed to deal with her trauma. You should really not confuse the two. I’d argue that some part of Sakura knows very well what’s happening, but she’s ultra desensitized to it. After a decade of that grueling nightmare, your mind has to develop tricks to make it ok, otherwise, you will not mentally survive.
Archer gave up on trying to kill Shirou because he chose to be a hero for Sakura alone rather than save humanity therefore Archer shirou would never come to pass.
The really messed up thing about UBW is the horrible things happening to Sakura (shinji, Zoken, the worms and even some of the murders) were still happening in UBW but Sakuras powers didn’t awaken because events had already shifted towards Shirou choosing Rin therefore her lust and hunger never came forward so Zoken didnt engage in the war. Also in UBW she was put in a coma by Riders spell at the school since Shiji activated it early during a school day so she never devoured anyone else . Sakuras issues were never resolved in UBW so she suffered in silence (but shinji stoped r***** her)
I very much believe archer is the shirou from the UBW timeline even during this route. Gaurdians and heroic spirits are outside of time and space until summoned so its very possible for this “shirou emiya” (archer) from another timeline to end up here as archer, his duties to protect humanity is more important than his objective of killing shirou, when he saw shirou walking hand in hand with Sakura it just rienforced his hesitation in killing him. This Shirou he sees will not turn into archer so there’s no need to kill him. Just before he cuts off his arm he parts Rin’s hair affectionately because he still has a bit of love from UBW he is just mean and indifferent to Rin to not give himself away as shirou. Great discussion btduds.
Yeah I wasn’t sure what to feel during the sex scene and other moments. Like I really liked the scene with Shirou running after Sakura and taking her home. But the sensual scenes made me feel very uncomfortable. That could very much be the point. I took it as she has romantic feelings for Shirou, but the Grail is amplifying that, turning it into a strong and pervasive desire. It did seem like it wasn’t a hundred percent her and that’s why it was weird to see Shirou go along.
I feel the sex scene is supposed to feel so what uncomfortable, even Shirou sees the shadow during it which can represent him seeing what she is being manipulated by.
How tf did Aaron keep a straight face through the lewd scenes
I like my hero but shitkng on fate for it not cool man. Fate is consider almost a classic at this point and you never get better animation then this.

Nope, we’ve got one more left. The My Hero movie will probably come out after they record the last episode of season 5, so the Fate movies have no bearing on their release date of it.
Dude, they said they’ll react to it when they finish season 5 of My Hero. Since the movie takes place during My Villain Academia arc, they waited till the season is over. So it’s coming, relax.

Fate zero the show is an adaptation of a light novel that is a prequal to all three routs of the game. the show itself is more or less faithful to the novel but because the same studio was going to make UBW after Zero they did put emphasis on the parts of Zero that are relevant UBW. That said none of Zero the show is non canon with the Heaven’s Feel movies.
Archer sacrificing himself was because he saw Shiro has given up his dream for Sakura. and Shiro changed his dream because he realized that under his nose this whole time one of his closest friends went through unimaginable pain while he cried about being a hero and so left his dream and dedicated himself to saving Sakura alone above all else.
Yes finally now only need to wait for the 3rd movie and also Medusa a gorgon although the same they are different servants Medusa is rider and gorgon is an avenger class servant bc there a few more different classes of servants and you will find out there’s 2 holy grails the weaker one the one we see in zero and UBW is the lesser grail the one you will see in the next movie is the greater grail and Ilya herself is the grail and the conduit to activate it
Wonder how all this Sakura stuff went down in the UBW timeline…it had to, sooner or later, Gilgamesh came to tell her to die there too in the very beginning, at least according to Ufotable…
I think in UBW and other routes, Rin sent Sakura away after the war started so the hf thing didn’t happen for her. So she just lived along with it, and was never saved in the other routes.
