I think one element that’s often overlooked about GL is that it does a stellar job consistently highlighting contributions and lending importance to the team writ large rather than fall into the toady trap of raising the protagonist’s pedestal to the point of a one-man show as many other shonens do. Given how clutch and ridiculously OP Simon is in comparison, GL still continually maintained a mutual respect comradery dynamic that delivered a significant emotional pay-off here I felt. Gotta appreciate how well it’s all setup and I’m glad the OGs were all given heroic deaths.
