People voted for this torture and people complain about the sequels with this in the world, I would have rather watched both Ewok movies 10 times over.
The makeup was definitely to cover up the accident. You can tell his facial structure is different in this from A New Hope.
Some added info; Mark Hamill was in the accident while they were finishing filming A New Hope, which was obviously way before this came out.
Mark Hamill face issues was least the problem with this special when have Bea Arthur singing in the Star Wars cantina. Like Muppet Show skit
