Manchester City is a team not the actual city itself! If a team has a player that they dont need but hope will be better in the future they will loan that player to a team who will play him.
I’m from Manchester, and I can confirm the city itself does not own any football clubs. I don’t think that’s the case anywhere in the UK. Manchester United are (at time of writing) currently owned by the Glazer family, who are American, and Manchester City is owned by the Abu Dhabi royal family. Manchester United are the most well known club, but they don’t really feature in Ted Lasso. Manchester City feature heavily because they had an agreement/deal with Apple TV. Manchester United are the more historically successful of the two clubs, and the most successful club domestically overall, (Liverpool are the most successful club in European competitions), however, city have been the most successful club in England for the last ten years
