I know I’m late, but as a someone who didn’t play the game, to answer Aaron’s question about wether or not show only people had the same sense of dread during the episode: in my case, definitively! Because the show already told us some of what happened:
– Ellie wore the same clothes (shirt and hoodie) as she did when we met her.
– in episode 1, when speaking to Ellie, Marlene alluded to something happening to someone named Riley
– in episode 2, Tess asked Ellie how she ended getiing bitten, and Ellie said it happened when she sneaked into the shut-off mall (although Ellie then lied to Tess and said she went in alone).
So yeah, I saw it coming! There is also the clue when Ellie told Joel in episode 4 that she’d already shot someone. My guess is, when Riley turned and Ellie didn’t, she had to shoot Riley… And then the Fireflies came in and were about to shoot Ellie when Marlene stopped them, as she said in episode 1.
I also love the callback to episode 3, when Joel and Ellie went to a Cumberland Farms in the beginning: Ellie was excited to see a Mortal Combat II game and talked about a friend who knew everything about this game and of Mileena’s character. I wondered at the time how a kid Ellie’s age could know about an arcade game. Now I know…
